News from Henderson Pinellas Park

6 September 2009 - Well it's been a while since the website got a lot of attention and Steve definitely slacked on updating it after the engagement. Much has changed: the wedding is about a month away, Steve has a new job with the Tech Data Corporation, we're living in Pinellas Park, FL and we're very happy. The move went pretty well, it was a long drive. Especially the Gallup, NM to Baton Rouge, LA in one day....ugh. From the desert to the humidity in 20 hours. A HUGE thank you to Doug and Larry for helping us move across the country!
On a different note Steve is turning what he's done the past two years at UNLV into a second Master's Thesis. Why not get something out of those two years. Kristen is working for Pier1 at the moment, but applying for other jobs as she finds them. It's time for us to start saving for a house. I think that's all we have for now. See you at the wedding!

27 July 2008 - Kristen and I are now engaged! We had a wonderful dinner at Morton's. I proposed during dessert. Yes, Kristen is a crier. Morton's, being the excellent place that it is, comped our dessert and two glasses of champaigne for the occasion even though I had not told them in advance. We're very happy and look forward to spending the rest of our lives together. Go here to see pics.

9 June 2008 - Not much in terms of related news, so random sentence fragments to follow... It "rained" here a couple weeks ago..... it was pathetic. We miss thunderstorms, well Steve does. Kristen's cousin Dan and wife Erin had a baby, Nolan Joseph Welter, congrats! Yes, the father is a baseball fan. Kristen had a small eye issue and feared laser surgery, but the doctor says she's fine. Steve will be traveling to the Chicago area in July and August for research, and then to New York for research, also in August. A number of Steve's family will be coming out at the end of the month along with some family friends. It should be a lot of fun, Can't wait! We have a bit of a roley poley problem. Not too bad because they're harmless, we find several each morning. Some alive, and others not so much....Bruce likes to paw at them until the roll up, then play with them and send them rolling and in the process probably killing some.

16 March 2008 - Things have been relatively uneventful over the past month or so. Steve will be at Argonne in April doing research and will spend some time in the suburbs when that is done. Steve will also be going to New York in may to do research; won't get to see any of the city though. Kristen is coming back in May to visit for several days (7-13). Yes we now it would make more sense to come at the same time, but this is how it worked out.

3 February 2008 - A week ago we went to San Diego to see Steve's uncle Jim, see some of San Diego, and to spend some time at the Buick Inivitational golf tournament. We had a great time and there are pictures up ("Pictures of San Diego"). We went to the Air and Space museum, automotive museum, and spent some time at Cabrillo Nat'l monument. Anyone that visits San Diego should visit the monument; the view from there is fantastic. Kristen is going back to her Asst. Manager position at the Henderson store because the manager she was filling in for has returned from maternity leave. Hopefully they'll have a store for her sometime soon. Otherwise things are going pretty well.

22 December 2007 - We'd like to thank our mom's for sending cookies. I've learned that if they are chocolate in any way I have to eat some as soon as they arrive in the case that they are gone very quickly....

15 December 2007 - Kristen has a challenge at the store she is managing, but she is doing great. The previous manager left her a bit of a mess, but the store is shaping up quickly. Steve just got back from a week at a geology conference in San Francisco that was good. A couple very good geologists were intrigued by his project; hopefully it will go well. He also spent a bit of an afternoon in the Muir Woods National Park which is populated by Sequioa and Redwood trees (pics are up in the San Francisco page). It was spectacular; if anyone is ever in the bay area they should cross the Golden Gate bridge and find there way to this park. Since we are not returning to Chicagoland for the holidays we are planning on going out to dinner on Christmas Eve (Morton's) and cooking on Christmas Day (ham and other good stuff). Hopefully nothing will end up burned and in the dumpster!

1 November 2007 - Doug and Becky visited us in October and it was great to see them. Thanks again for taking us out to dinner! They got their first taste of In-N-Out Burger, saw some of the local geology, and spent some time on The Strip. We're not sure what exactly we're doing for Thanksgiving; it depends on Kristen's work situation and whether or not my instructors will cancel class the day before (the university is open). If we can't go down to Pheonix we're going to go out for a nice dinner (it's Vegas, so we're betting on some of the nice restuarants being open). Steve has research time the last few days of November at Argonne and will spend some of the first weekend of December in Chicagoland after the experiment time is done.

13 October 2007 - Random thoughts and updates.
Things are going well. Food is really expensive out here, more so than the Chicago suburbs at least. We're both working a fair amount, Steve usually works 9-11 hour days and Kristen ends up working 6 days a week (sometimes) as one of the managers is on leave. Bruce is good, becoming quite the excellent bug hunter, the apartment is good. Steve will be at Argonne in Lemont next week doing research, but unfortunately won't be able to stay more than the research time. That's it for now.
